Yarn export unimpressive in August, Bangladesh picks 40pc

Yarn export in August remained unimpressive after hitting the peak in June while fibre exports mirrored yarn trend. In August 2021, basic textiles comprising fibres, spun and filament yarns shipment were worth US$1,224 million or INR8,876 crore, accounting for about 3.7% of total merchandise exported from India during the month.

 

All Yarn Export

Spun yarn export totaled 157 million kg worth US$570 million or INR4,190 crore. The unit value realization of all types of spun yarn averaged US$3.62 per kg, about US$1.16 up year on year. Bangladesh was the largest importer of spun yarns accounting for 40% during the month, followed by China and Portugal.

 

Cotton yarn export

Cotton yarn export was at 122 million kg worth US$464 million (INR3,410 crore). These were shipped to 73 countries at an average price of US$3.79 a kg, up US cents 4 from previous month and up US$1.31 from August 2020. Bangladesh was the top importer of cotton yarn, followed by China, Portugal, Peru, and Egypt.

 

Non-cotton yarn export

100% man-made fibre yarns exports were at 11.36 million kg, comprising over 6.15 million kg of polyester yarn, 3 million kg of viscose yarn and 2 million kg of acrylic yarn. Viscose yarn was worth US$10 million or INR76 crore were exported at an average price of US$3.44 per kg in August. The major market was Bangladesh, followed by Italy, Belgium, Turkey and Brazil. Polyester spun yarns export was worth US$14 million exported at average unit price of US$2.26 a kg. Brazil was the largest importer of polyester yarn, followed by Turkey and USA.

 

Blended yarn export

Blended spun yarns worth US$75 million were exported in August, including 15 million kg of PC yarns and 5 million kg of PV yarns. Bangladesh was the largest importers of PC yarn from India followed by Egypt while Turkey was the single largest importer of PV yarns from India followed by Iran.

 

Filament export

All kinds of filament yarns shipment totaled 76 million kg, valued at US$135 million or INR992 crore.
