Yarn Exports in February

Indian Yarn Export Jumped in February 2024

In February 2024, basic textiles comprising all fibres, spun and filament yarns shipment were worth US$796 million or INR6,557 crore, accounting for just 1.9% of total merchandise exported from India during the month.

Spun yarns shipment totaled 129 million kg worth US$383 million or INR3,152 crore in February 2024, up 20% (16%) year on year. The unit value realization of all types of spun yarn averaged US$2.96 per kg. Bangladesh was the largest importer of spun yarns during the month, followed by China and Vietnam. Exports to Bangladesh jumped 62% (54%) from a year ago while those to China were down 13% (17%) while that to Vietnam rose 38% (32%).

Cotton yarn export

Cotton yarn export was at 104 million kg worth US$313 million (INR2,578 crore). Volume shipment was up 13% (9%) year on year, while revenue earning grew 12% (85) in US$ term. These were shipped to 71 coun-tries at an average price of US$3.02 a kg, down US cents 36 from February 2024. Bangladesh was the top importer of cotton yarn, followed by China, Vietnam, Peru, and Egypt. China’s imports of Indian cotton yarn during the month fell 14% (17%) while exports to Bangladesh surged 55% (50%) and that to Vietnam was up 47% (42%).

100% non-cotton yarn export

100% man-made fibre yarns exports reversed the declined and was up 3% at 8.30 million kg, worth US$23 million, comprising 2.29 million kg of acrylic yarn, 2.41 million kg of viscose yarn and 3.54 million kg of pol-yester yarn.

Viscose yarn worth US$7.48 million or INR62 crore were exported at an average price of US$3.11 per kg in February. The major markets were Turkey followed by Bangladesh and UAE. Polyester spun yarns worth US$7.28 million were exported at an average unit price of US$2.06 a kg. USA was the largest importer of polyester yarn, followed by Brazil and Turkey.

Blended yarn export

Blended spun yarns export was worth US$47 million in February, including 11.58 million kg of PC yarns and 3.59 million kg of PV yarns. Bangladesh was the top importers of PC yarn from India followed by Egypt and Brazil while Turkey was the single largest importer of PV yarns from India followed distantly by Kenya and Brazil.
