Indian polyester and blended yarn sees good demand in export markets
Indian polyester yarn and blends thereof has been in good demand from export markets in recent months. The year on year increases in the past 11 months has been positive, unlike the other types of spun yarn.
They include poly/cotton, poly/viscose, 100% polyester yarn, poly/wool, poly/acrylic, poly/flax and poly/nylon and core spun PFY/poly. The major ones are the first three listed in order of their export value.
Over the past five months, export of polyester and its blended yarn has been on an acceleration. Most of these months have recorded year on year increase of over 50% in terms of value. The growth had almost doubled in March this year.
Interestingly, the rising unit price realization has been the key factor for such a growth. Between June 2017 and June 2018, the average price realization of these spun yarns has increased almost US cents 10 a kg, from US$2.74 a kg to US$2.83 a kg. The highest US cents 15 was in case of 100% polyester yarn, US cents 11 in poly-cotton and US cents 7 in poly-viscose yarns.
In June, 100% polyester yarns worth US$11.5 million were exported to 49 countries at average unit price of US$2.49 a kg with volume at 4.6 million kg. During the month, 9.8 million kg of PC yarns was exported worth US$27 million while 4.7 million kg of PV yarns were exported worth US$14 million.
Turkey was the largest importer of polyester yarn, followed by Brazil and USA. Unit price realization was up both compared to last month and also from last year. Bangladesh. Colombia and Egypt, were the largest importers of PC yarn from India while Turkey was the single largest importer of PV yarns from India followed distantly by Pakistan…. click here for polyester price trend
The above analysis is based on Textile Beacon’s Fibre to Yarn Trade Statistics – India reports, which cover shipment data on all kinds of fibres, spun yarns and filament yarns from Indian ports. It includes data on natural and manmade fibres, spun yarns of cotton, viscose, polyester, acrylic, and their blends, filament yarns of polyester, nylon, polypropylene and viscose exported from India. Three key variables, namely – volume, value and unit price realization, are analysed by counts and destination markets.
